About the Event
Springville Police Department will host the Implicit Bias: Basic Concepts and Countermeasures Course. This course is scheduled for Monday, April 25, 2022. This course is free. TRAINING MANDATE – APOSTC Implicit Bias: Concepts and Countermeasures The Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission (Commission) mandated, in August of 2020, that all certified law enforcement officers in the state of Alabama receive the 4-hour APOSTC course Implicit Bias: Concepts and Countermeasures. This course will count for 4-hours of the officer’s 12-hour continuing education requirement. The mandated course focuses on what implicit bias is, how biases are formed and how implicit biases could potentially impact your decision making. The course also discusses ways to identify, address and control biases. Every Law Enforcement Officer must receive the training by the end of 2023.
Exemption:
Officers that are exempt from the mandated training include officers that have graduated either a 14-week basic APOSTC Academy course or a 3-week Lateral/Refresher course since the beginning of 2021.
