About the Event
Jefferson County Sheriff's Training Center will present the Implicit Bias: Basic Concepts and Countermeasures Course. This course is scheduled for Friday, March 3, 2023. This course is free. TRAINING MANDATE – APOSTC Implicit Bias: Concepts and Countermeasures The Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission (Commission) mandated, in August of 2020, that all certified law enforcement officers in the state of Alabama receive the 4-hour APOSTC course Implicit Bias: Concepts and Countermeasures. This course will count for 4-hours of the officer’s 12-hour continuing education requirement. The mandated course focuses on what implicit bias is, how biases are formed and how implicit biases could potentially impact your decision-making. The course also discusses ways to identify, address and control biases. Every Law Enforcement Officer must receive the training by the end of 2023.
Exemption:
Officers that are exempt from the mandated training include officers that have graduated either a 14-week basic APOSTC Academy course or a 3-week Lateral/Refresher course since the beginning of 2021.
