About the Event

The Birmingham Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Training Center, is conducting an 40-hour FBI Firearms Instructor Course. This course will be held August 5 – 9, 2024 beginning at 09:00 a.m. at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Training Center. 3500 Happy Hollow Lane, Fultondale, AL 35068 (Phone: 205-849-5246).

Upon completion of this course each student will be recognized by APOSTC as a qualified firearms instructor. Upon completion of this course, instructors will be able to conduct all of their department's firearm qualifications including night/low light training, combat training. and shotgun training courses.

There will be a Pre-Qualification shoot for this course. Just because you RSVP for this class, does not guarantee you a slot in this class. At present the class is slotted for 14 students and we have more than that competing for this class. We will be taking the first 14 students that have signed up, in order, and passed the pre-qualification in that order. Meaning, if you registered as number 8 and fail a qualification attemted, the person who is number 17, and passed the pre-qualification will be selected. Each student must have a minimum of 150 rounds of handgun ammunition, 150 rifle/sub gun ammunition for prequalification.

Below are the courses of fire that will be used in the Pre-Qualification:

• A score of 100% on the APOSTC Pistol Qualification Course. The shooter must pass at least 1 of the 3 qualification attempts.

          · If you are using Iron Sights, you have to get 40/50 rounds in the 8 Ring or better on a Q-20 target

          · If you are using a Red Dot, you have to get 45/50 rounds in the 8 Ring or better on a Q-20 target

• A score of 96% of higher on the FBI Carbine Qualification Course. The shooter must pass at least 1 of the 3 qualification attempts.

          · Shooters will be required to score a 96 overall on the FBI Carbine Qualification Course, with at least 40/50 in the 8 ring or better on a Q-20 target or similar.

Targets will be scored by Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Range Firearms Instructors.

Here is a link to the Q-20 target, that’s what the FBI uses now. Q-20 targets can be purchased here:

As a substitution for Q-20 targets, you can cut out the 8-ring portion and affix it to any Q style target

Students must possess above average shooting skills. This course is NOT designed to teach students to shoot It is designed to teach them how to teach others to shoot.
