Law Enforcement Agencies are constantly being challenged to offer a wide range of training and development for law enforcement officers. In order to provide this training, agencies must develop trainers who are not only experts in their fields, but who also have mastered the art of sharing this information with others as well as understanding the importance of Lesson Guides, documentation, and records. In order to be a successful instructor, you must possess more skills than just the knowledge and experience of a topic.
This course is for the trainer to learn what is involved in developing and presenting classes and addressing the liability issues in instructing classes. The class will include but not limited to:
- assessing the need for training/topics
- how to research lesson guides/plans
- how to write lesson guides
- how to prepare effective presentations
- ethical considerations for training
- psychology of learning
- visual aids for training
- handling different attitudes of students
- etc.
This five (5) day seminar is intense. Some days will be longer than 8-5 pm. Each day will have assignments to be done by the students. Working knowledge of PowerPoint if suggested but not required.
Students will need to come prepared with a topic to develop as a lesson guide during the week. Please bring any research material needed to write your lesson guide. Students will be required to pass a written exam (80% or above), and successfully present a written and oral lesson guide (80% or above).
This class is a must for anyone who provides instruction to their agency or in an academy setting.
