3-year certification
Mental Health Awareness Training utilizes the evidence-based Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program to train Public Safety and other First Responders across all counties of Alabama to respond to adults who may be struggling with mental health issues. The training is provided for free to departments and paid for by a federal grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The training focuses on recognizing the signs and symptoms of early, worsening, and crisis signs of a mental health condition, and how to appropriately respond. Secondary trauma and First Responder wellness are also discussed, as well as resources available throughout the state. The project establishes linkages with community-based mental health agencies for referral and educates individuals about resources that are available in the community for those in need of services.
