About the Event
This course is taught by the Public Agency Training Council and hosted by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Training Center.
Some of the topics will include:
Analyzing Evidence - the different types of evidence, how that evidence is useful and how to use that evidence in making a case
- Crime Scene Photos - what is the objective of photos, recording the scene before alteration, recording the location and positing of evidence, documenting the point of view of prinicpals and potential witnesses, documenting spatial relationships of pertinent items
- Follow-Up Investigation - what are the steps, locating witnesses, eyewitness identification, using social media, survelliance cameras, victimology, crime scene reconstruction, inury reconstruction and autopsy
- Gunshot Evidence - understand and identify entrance, exit, contact and gazing wounds, abbrasion collar, stippling and powder burns
- Blood Pattern Analysis - reconstructuring the crime scene, identifying a suspect and corroborating suspect and victim statements
- Digital Evidence - understanding what that evidence is, where it is located and how to retrieve it
- Search Warrants - search warrant process, mistakes made
- Case Management - having an efficient and effective process by which cases are assigned, managed, audited and closed
- Case Preparation - froming the beginning preparing for prosecutive and jury expectations, the CSI effect, defense strategies and case presentation
- Investigative Checklists - checklists for the death scenees: homicide, unattended death, suicide, child death scenese, autoerotic fatality
